New Delhi: An 18-year-old first-year MBBS student at GMERS Medical College and Hospital in Patan, Gujarat, has died following a ragging incident in the college hostel, officials reported.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the student, identified as Anil Methaniya, lost consciousness after being compelled to stand for three hours. He was promptly taken to the hospital, where attempts to revive him were unsuccessful, as confirmed by Dr. Hardik Shah, the dean of the college.
The college’s anti-ragging committee has initiated an investigation into the incident, with the administration pledging stringent action against those found guilty of ragging. Meanwhile, a police official from Balisana mentioned that a case of accidental death has been registered, and Methaniya’s body has been sent for a postmortem examination. Witnesses have alleged that senior students forced first-year students to endure prolonged standing and introductions.
This event has provoked widespread outrage and intensified concerns about the effectiveness of anti-ragging regulations in educational institutions.
