Government Committed to Resolving Issue of Missing Persons, Law Minister Announces

Islamabad, Minister for Law and Justice Azam Nazeer Tarar declared the government’s commitment to resolving the issue of missing persons during a news conference in Islamabad, joined by Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar. The announcement followed the reconstitution of a committee, on the Prime Minister’s direction, to address the matter, including parliamentary representation.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar emphasized that the issue of missing persons, spanning four decades and having various dimensions, cannot be resolved overnight. He called for a political solution with consensus, in addition to legal measures. The Law Minister also acknowledged Pakistan’s sacrifices in the war on terrorism, underscoring the heavy price paid by the nation and its security forces.

Minister Attaullah Tarar reiterated the government’s commitment to tackling the issue of missing persons. He mentioned that the Commission of Inquiry on Enforced Disappearances had resolved 7,900 out of over 10,000 cases of missing persons.

Addressing the political landscape, the Information Minister discussed the outcomes of recent by-elections, which he said validated public confidence in Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) policies. He noted that the results indicated a public alignment with PML-N and its leadership to guide the country towards development and prosperity. Attaullah Tarar also stated that the people have rejected the narratives of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), citing their focus on conspiracy, hatred, anarchy, and vandalism.

The Information Minister accused the previous PTI government of leading the country towards international isolation. In contrast, he credited the current PML-N government with restoring Pakistan’s international standing. He also cited reports from international financial institutions and rating agencies that endorsed the policies of the present government, designed to bring economic stability.

Minister Attaullah Tarar pointed out that Pakistan’s current account has become surplus, foreign direct investment has increased, and IT exports are on an upward trajectory due to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s prudent economic policies. He expressed optimism that these measures would help the country achieve further success and economic glory.
