Government to Form Commission to Investigate Islamabad High Court Judges’ Concerns

Islamabad, In response to concerns raised by six judges of the Islamabad High Court, the government has announced its decision to set up a Commission of Inquiry. This commission is tasked with investigating the issues highlighted in a letter sent to the Chief Justice of Pakistan.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, alongside Attorney General Mansoor Usman Awan, shared details about the commission’s formation following a meeting between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa. The commission, which will operate under the rules of a Federal Cabinet meeting, aims to address the judges’ grievances thoroughly and impartially. An esteemed retired judicial figure will be appointed to lead this commission, ensuring its findings are both comprehensive and fair.

The Law Minister conveyed the Prime Minister’s commitment to transparency and justice, stating that if the issues raised are verified, steps will be taken to prevent their recurrence. Prime Minister Sharif’s meeting with Chief Justice Isa also reinforced his stance on the judiciary’s independence, asserting that there would be no compromise in this area.

Furthermore, Tarar highlighted the Prime Minister’s dedication to fulfilling his constitutional responsibilities and his assurance to the Chief Justice that the government would respect the separation of powers, ensuring no institutional interference. This move is seen as a step towards maintaining the integrity of the judiciary and addressing any potential concerns within the legal system to uphold justice and constitutional law in Pakistan.
