Government Vows to Improve Power Sector for Consumer Relief

Islamabad: Minister for Power, Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to enhancing the power sector to provide substantial relief to both residential and industrial consumers across the country.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, during an interview with a private television channel, Minister Leghari detailed the government’s efforts to rectify prevailing deficiencies in the power sector. He highlighted the ongoing evaluation of actual power generation and energy consumption patterns during different seasons, aiming to optimize performance and efficiency.

Leghari also discussed the government’s multi-pronged strategy to accelerate the privatization of the power sector. He mentioned that the privatization process is being phased, with certain Distribution Companies (DISCOs) slated for early privatization, while others will follow in subsequent phases. Furthermore, he assured that issues concerning Independent Power Producers and capacity payments are expected to be resolved shortly, signaling a proactive approach to longstanding challenges.
