Islamabad: Minister for National Food Security and Research, Rana Tanveer Hussain, has announced comprehensive measures aimed at making sugar available at affordable prices. In a high-level meeting held in Islamabad with the Pakistan Sugar Mills Association, the minister emphasized the government’s commitment to enforcing the government-notified ex-mill price of sugar and ensuring its smooth availability in markets across the country.
According to Radio Pakistan, the meeting involved detailed discussions on implementing the set ex-mill sugar price and the necessary steps to guarantee an immediate and consistent supply of sugar nationwide. The Sugar Mills Association expressed its approval of the government’s decision and pledged its full cooperation in stabilizing sugar prices.
The association agreed to supply sugar at the ex-mill price of Rs. 165 per kg, with expectations that this price reduction would be reflected in the retail market within two to three days. Rana Tanveer Hussain reiterated the government’s dedication to public relief, stressing that there would be stringent enforcement of the retail price and a zero-tolerance policy towards hoarding or profiteering.
The minister also mentioned that an effective strategy has been devised to prevent artificial price increases and to ensure a steady supply of sugar across Pakistan.
