Health Coordinator Inspects PGMI-II Site and Highlights PMDC’s International Accreditation

Islamabad, Dr. Malik Mukhtar Ahmed, the Coordinator to the Prime Minister on National Health Services, Regulations, and Coordination, emphasized the swift completion of the Post Graduate Medical Institution II (PGMI-II) during his site visit, while also acknowledging the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council’s (PMDC) recent international accreditation success.

According to Press Information Department, Dr. Malik Mukhtar Ahmed, alongside Federal Secretary Health Iftikhar Ali Shallwani, reviewed the construction progress of PGMI-II, a 300-bed hospital expected to be operational by September 2025. Ahmed stressed the importance of this facility in relieving the healthcare pressure in Islamabad and mandated the Infrastructure Development Authority of Punjab (IDAP) to meet the project timeline. He suggested future-proofing the building to accommodate potential expansion.

The visit also included a briefing on the PMDC’s operations, where Dr. Ahmed called for enhanced medical education standards and support for Pakistani medical students abroad. He lauded PMDC’s accreditation with the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME), a move that positions Pakistani medical graduates for global opportunities. Additionally, he advised the establishment of a special desk at PMDC to facilitate foreign doctors’ temporary stay in Pakistan, aiming to boost international patient care.
