Dehradun: Hindu extremist group Rashtriya Seva Sangh staged a protest in Uttarakhand demanding the demolition of a house where Muslims had gathered to perform prayers.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Times of India reported that the incident occurred in Pithoragarh district’s Berinag area, Uttarakhand. Soon after the protest, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Berinag, Shresth Gansola, issued a summons to the homeowner, Abdul Nazim, asking for an explanation.
The protest was organized by the Hindu extremist group Rashtriya Seva Sangh, which alleged that the property had been “illegally converted into a place of worship,” attracting large gatherings of Muslims for prayers.
Meanwhile, social activists and opposition members condemned the incident, describing it as part of a larger conspiracy by right-wing groups to target minorities with the state government’s implicit support.
CPI (ML) State Secretary Indresh Maikhuri said such incidents are meant to instill fear in minorities, particularly Muslims. He called on Uttarakhand residents to resist any attempts to disturb communal harmony.
In a similar incident, on October 24 in Uttarkashi, Hindu extremists organized a violent rally demanding the demolition of a mosque, leaving five police officers and over 30 individuals injured.
