Hutchison Group Plans $1 Billion Investment in Pakistan’s Maritime Infrastructure

Islamabad, A high-level delegation from Hutchison Group met with Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh to discuss a $1 billion investment in enhancing port facilities and logistics infrastructure at Karachi Port Trust and other strategic ports in Pakistan. The meeting, aimed at expanding and modernizing the maritime sector, was attended by key officials including the Federal Secretary Maritime, the Chairman of Karachi Port Trust, and the Chairman of Port Qasim Authority.

According to Press Information Department, the delegation, led by Hutchison Ports Regional Head Mr. Andy Tsoi, presented a strategic vision that includes an initial investment of $200 million. The comprehensive plan covers the development of state-of-the-art warehouses, storage facilities, and depots, as well as modern road networks and technology integration to boost operational efficiency and transshipment capabilities at Pakistan’s major ports.

Minister Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh urged the Hutchison Group to finalize their plans to transform these prospects into actionable outcomes, emphasizing the critical role of port development in driving Pakistan’s economic progress. In response, leaders from Karachi International Container Terminal and South Asia Pakistan Terminals Limited expressed their commitment to advancing the proposed projects and strengthening their collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Maritime Affairs. The meeting concluded with the Federal Minister reiterating the government’s commitment to supporting these initiatives, which are expected to significantly enhance Pakistan’s position as a global maritime hub.
