Srinagar: Tariq Hameed Karra, the Congress chief in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), has emphasized that the forthcoming Assembly elections are crucial not just for forming a government but for restoring the statehood and powers of the Assembly, as well as the dignity of the region.
According to Kashmir Media Service, during an interview, Karra expressed that the elections are a pivotal moment for addressing these fundamental issues. He remained non-committal about the potential chief ministerial candidate from the National Conference (NC) should the Congress-NC alliance win, stating that it is premature to predict post-election outcomes.
Karra confidently stated that the alliance between Congress and NC is poised to secure a majority in the 90-member assembly, dismissing any significant challenge from Mehbooba Mufti’s PDP. Additionally, he commented on the prospects of the Ghulam Nabi Azad-led Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP), dismissing it as irrelevant to the political future of the region.
