IPO-Pakistan Promotes Intellectual Property Awareness in Gilgit Baltistan

Islamabad: Ambassador (R) Farukh Amil, Chair of IPO-Pakistan, visited Gilgit Baltistan for two days to enhance intellectual property awareness, foster collaboration with local authorities, and explore potential for economic growth in the region. The visit involved meetings with key local officials and stakeholders to discuss the protection of the region’s unique agricultural products and handicrafts.

According to Press Information Department, on his first day, Ambassador Amil met with Engineer Mohammed Anwar, Minister for Agriculture, Livestock, and Fisheries, to emphasize the importance of intellectual property protection. The meeting set the stage for future cooperation between IPO-Pakistan and Gilgit Baltistan’s local government to safeguard the region’s distinctive products. Further discussions with law enforcement heads underscored the commitment to improve intellectual property enforcement and attract more investments to the area.

The second day was marked by site visits to agricultural locales in Hunza where Ambassador Amil engaged with agricultural associations, business owners, and political figures. The focus of these interactions was on the significance of Geographical Indications and Genetic Resources for the region’s agriculture and tourism sectors. This led to a consensus on the need for continued engagement and support from IPO-Pakistan to protect and promote local products and services.

Ambassador Amil concluded the visit by affirming IPO-Pakistan’s dedication to supporting Gilgit Baltistan’s economic development through enhanced intellectual property rights protection and advocacy. The stakeholders expressed their support for this initiative, recognizing its potential to contribute significantly to the region’s economy.
