Islamabad, In a move to strengthen bilateral trade ties, Iran has shown a keen interest in increasing its imports of meat, rice, and other agricultural products from Pakistan. This intention was communicated by the Iranian Ambassador to Pakistan, Reza Amiri-Moghaddam, during a meeting with Pakistan’s Minister for Industries and Production and Food Security, Rana Tanveer.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the discussion highlighted the mutual benefits of such an agreement, with the Iranian Ambassador emphasizing the popularity of Pakistani kinnow (a type of citrus fruit) among Iranian consumers. Furthermore, the anticipated visit of the Iranian President to Pakistan is expected to culminate in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on livestock quarantine and plant protection, facilitating smoother trade exchanges between the two nations.
Minister Rana Tanveer responded positively, remarking on the strong ties that exist between Pakistan and Iran. He suggested that beyond agriculture, there are ample opportunities for industrial cooperation that could be explored. Ambassador Moghaddam reiterated Iran’s desire to foster closer ties with Pakistan across all sectors, indicating a broad scope for collaboration beyond the immediate agricultural focus.
The dialogue between the two officials underscores a mutual interest in expanding trade relations, with a specific emphasis on agriculture, which forms a significant part of both countries’ economies.
