Srinagar, The Jamia Masjid in Srinagar has been closed by the authorities, preventing the traditional night-long prayers associated with the holy occasion of Shab-e-Qadr. This action comes amidst a broader context of restrictions in the region.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the Anjuman Auqaf of Jamia Masjid announced that after Asr prayers, officials shut the mosque’s gates and police directed worshippers to leave the area. The organization relayed that they were informed of the prohibition against conducting Taraweeh or Shab Khani prayers during Shab-e-Qadr at the mosque.
Additionally, the report mentioned that Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, a prominent religious and political leader in the region, was placed under house arrest earlier the same day. The Anjuman Auqaf criticized the closure of the mosque and the restriction on prayers, labeling these actions as oppressive and expressing their dissatisfaction with the authorities’ decisions.
