SCO Calls on Afghan Government to Strengthen Efforts Against Terrorism

Islamabad, The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) has issued a call to the Afghan government, urging it to adhere to its commitments in the fight against terrorism. This appeal came during the nineteenth annual meeting of the Security Councils of the SCO members, highlighting concerns over the threat that international terrorist groups based in Afghanistan pose to regional security.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, a joint statement released following the meeting emphasized the significant risks that such groups represent to the SCO member states. The organization stressed the need for enhanced cooperation among its members to effectively combat terrorist threats, transnational organized crime, and the suppression of channels that finance terrorism, in addition to addressing the challenges of illegal migration.

The SCO’s call to action reflects the broader regional concern over stability and security in Afghanistan, especially in the context of the international community’s ongoing efforts to counter terrorism and ensure peace. The organization’s focus on cooperation and collective action underscores its strategic priority to mitigate threats that transcend national borders, posing a collective challenge to the member states.
