Islamabad: In a significant move to bolster educational and scientific collaboration, Ms. Mary O’Neill, the Ambassador of Ireland to Pakistan, met with Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, Chairman of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) in Islamabad. The meeting, which included delegates from top Irish universities, focused on expanding cooperative efforts in higher education between the two nations.
According to Higher Education Commission of Pakistan, Ambassador O’Neill, the first resident Irish ambassador to the country, discussed the recent opening of Ireland’s first embassy in Pakistan. She expressed gratitude for the substantial contributions made by the Pakistani community in Ireland, particularly in sectors like medicine and social services.
During the discussions, Dr. Ahmed reiterated HEC’s commitment to enhancing educational partnerships with Ireland, highlighting initiatives such as qualification recognition, faculty and student exchange programs, and the development of scholarships for Pakistani students.
