Islamabad Clarifies ECC’s Timely Decision on Wheat Procurement

Islamabad, The Finance Division has addressed recent media speculations, asserting that the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) did not delay its decision on wheat procurement targets. This clarification comes amid reports suggesting procrastination in setting these crucial agricultural benchmarks.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the ECC, in its session last Thursday, deliberated on wheat procurement specifics, inviting input from relevant federal ministries. To ground the decision-making process in practicality, the ECC sought the engagement of provincial governments, key stakeholders in the execution of these policies. Consequently, a meeting was convened with provincial representatives, who briefed on the current procurement activities and financial needs related to wheat in their regions.

This subsequent meeting led to the ECC’s ratification of the procurement targets and financial parameters proposed by the Ministry of Food Security and the provinces, without any adjustments to the initial suggestions. The emphasis was on collaborative efforts to stabilize wheat supply and ensure that farmers receive support price for their harvest.

Particularly, the Punjab government shared its proactive measures in monitoring and managing the wheat supply, reaffirming its commitment to maintaining fair pricing for farmers. This narrative reaffirms the government’s active role in safeguarding agricultural stakeholders and ensuring food security through timely and coordinated policy actions.
