Islamabad Launches Major Tree Plantation Drive to Restore Margalla Hills

Islamabad: Directed by Federal Minister for Interior Mohsin Naqvi, Islamabad has embarked on its largest tree plantation drive with the ambitious goal of planting 4 million trees over the next 60 days to combat environmental pollution and restore the natural beauty of the Margalla Hills.

According to Press Information Department, the initiative, overseen by Capital Development Authority (CDA) Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa, aims to replenish areas damaged by recent wildfires and enhance the habitat for local wildlife. The campaign is part of a broader effort to ensure the ecological health of the Margalla Hills, which have suffered from extensive heatwave-induced fires.

The minister emphasized the importance of using fruit-bearing and flowering plants instead of merely ornamental trees to enrich the green cover, which in turn will contribute to making Islamabad lush and vibrant. He has also mandated digital monitoring of the newly planted saplings to ensure their growth and survival.

This extensive environmental effort is set to not only beautify the city but also significantly reduce its pollution levels.
