Muzaffarabad: In remembrance of the Jammu martyrs, November 6 has been designated as Jammu Martyrs’ Day. The day is set to honor the memory of Kashmiris killed in the 1947 conflicts in Jammu.
According to Kashmir Media Service, during the early days of November 1947, forces under Dogra Maharaja Hari Singh, along with the Indian army and Hindu extremists, killed a significant number of Kashmiris in the Jammu area as they attempted to migrate to Pakistan. Events to commemorate the day will be hosted in Muzaffarabad, organized by the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Cell and the All Jammu Refugees Welfare Association. These events are expected to draw ministers from Azad Jammu and Kashmir, political leaders, members of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference, and citizens from various sectors. Raja Muhammad Aslam Khan, Director of the Kashmir Liberation Cell, reiterated the historical significance of the events of 1947, emphasizing that the deaths of approximately 880,000 Muslims were instigated by the Dogra administration and Hindu extremists under the guise of offering safe passage to Pakistan.
