Karachi, In anticipation of the upcoming month of Ramadan, Karachi’s Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab has called for a comprehensive anti-encroachment campaign to ensure unimpeded traffic flow and facilitate the city’s residents during the fasting period. This directive aims to address the perennial issue of road encroachments that exacerbate traffic congestion, particularly during peak hours.
According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, Mayor Wahab presided over a meeting with the anti-encroachment department officers, emphasizing the importance of smooth traffic during Ramadan, especially at Iftar and Taraweeh times. The Mayor underscored the significance of the holy month and the city administration’s duty to enhance convenience for the fasting populace.
The meeting, which also saw attendance from various city officials including the PPP Parliamentary Leader in the city council Najmi Alam and Municipal Commissioner S.M Afzal Zaidi, identified key areas prone to traffic snarls, including New M.A Jinnah Road, Burns Road, and Tariq Road. Mayor Wahab instructed the prompt removal of all encroachments impeding traffic and warned of accountability for officers failing to ensure clear roads.
The Mayor’s remarks also acknowledged the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) staff’s performance during the recent rains, citing increased public confidence in the municipal body’s effectiveness. He stressed the need to build on this momentum and view the upcoming Ramadan as an opportunity to further demonstrate KMC’s commitment to serving Karachi’s citizens.
This initiative reflects the city’s proactive approach to urban management, aiming to alleviate the daily challenges faced by Karachi’s residents and ensure a more observant and respectful observance of the Ramadan period.
