Karachi, In a significant move to upgrade its identification system, the Karachi police department is set to introduce new service cards for its personnel, equipped with modern tracking and data management technologies.
According to Sindh Police, the decision was finalized during a review meeting at the Central Police Office in Karachi, chaired by IG Sindh Ghulam Nabi Memon and attended by DIGs across various departments including Headquarters, Establishment, IT, and Finance. The new cards, which will be issued to approximately 140,000 police officers and staff, are designed to improve identification, enhance operational efficiency, and incorporate advanced security features.
The DIG Establishment briefed the meeting about the tender process for the new cards, emphasizing compliance with existing rules and regulations. The cards will feature a new structure, design, and color scheme, and will include essential data entries. The meeting also discussed integrating technologies that would allow for tracking and accessing police data more effectively.
IG Memon highlighted the potential benefits of these modernized service cards, stating they would facilitate easier identification of officers and enable digital storage of their data. He also instructed that the process of issuing these cards be streamlined through a one-window operation to avoid any interruptions until all personnel receive their new cards. Additionally, provisions will be made on the cards to distinctly mark disabled police employees, akin to the system used by Nadra.
