Kashmir Council Europe Chair Criticizes Modi’s Srinagar Visit

Brussels, Ali Raza Syed, Chairman of the Kashmir Council Europe (KCEU), has vocally criticized Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to Srinagar, labeling it a manipulative ploy to ensnare Kashmiris within a deceptive political scheme.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Syed condemned the visit as a superficial attempt to portray normalcy in the region while alleging that the Indian government continues to infringe upon the Kashmiris’ fundamental rights, including their right to self-determination. He described Modi’s trip as an orchestrated event aimed at misleading the international community about the ground realities in Indian-occupied Kashmir.

Syed highlighted the alleged coercion of local residents into attending Modi’s rally, questioning the authenticity of the support displayed during the event. He maintained that India’s stringent control over Kashmir, especially since the 2019 constitutional changes, signifies a broader strategy to quell the Kashmiri self-determination movement.

The chairman also referenced recent protests in Srinagar and surrounding areas, interpreting these demonstrations as clear indicators of the Kashmiri people’s rejection of Indian dominion. Furthermore, he criticized the detention of numerous Kashmiri youths in the lead-up to Modi’s visit, advocating for their immediate release.

The dissemination of anti-Modi posters across various Kashmiri locales was cited as additional evidence of widespread local opposition to the Indian Prime Minister’s policies and presence in the region, underscoring a persistent demand for self-determination and resistance to perceived political subterfuge.
