Lahore, A delegation from leading British universities met with Provincial Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafiq at King Edward Medical University to discuss enhancing medical education and cooperation between the UK and Pakistan.
According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Punjab, the meeting was led by Sir Steve Smith and included prominent figures such as Vice Chancellor King Edward Medical University Professor Dr. Mahmood Ayaz, along with faculty members and students. The session featured discussions on mutual interests in medical education, followed by a lively question and answer segment with the students.
Minister Rafiq highlighted the strong educational and health sector ties between Pakistan and Great Britain, acknowledging the UK’s high standards of education and its contributions to Pakistan. He also noted that improving the health system remains a top priority for Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif. Rafiq extended his gratitude towards the UK for its longstanding support in education and health sectors in Pakistan.
Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Mahmood Ayaz emphasized the university’s commitment to international educational standards, proudly noting that its graduates are recognized globally. Sir Steve Smith, head of the British delegation, expressed admiration for Pakistani hospitality and discussed his productive meeting with Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, affirming his desire to further enhance educational facilities in Pakistan. He praised the achievements of King Edward Medical University and marked this visit as a significant step in fostering educational ties.
