New Delhi, Narendra Modi’s government is encountering several challenges during the phased Lok Sabha elections in India, among them the rapid rise in unemployment.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the Reuters news agency reported that the Modi government has failed to generate enough jobs for India’s expanding youth population. Between 2010 and 2019, approximately 29.2 percent of the total number of youth were neither employed, educated, nor in training.
Recently, India Employment Report 2024 issued by the International Labour Organization, one out of every three Indian youth is unemployed. The report also noted that the Indian economy grew at a rate of 6.5 percent during the fiscal year ending on March 31.
The high rate of unemployment has led to a wave of illegal migration, with poor people moving to the United States and Britain. In recent years, more than 40,000 Indians have illegally relocated to Israel for employment. The Modi government has been criticized for its discriminatory actions against minorities, especially Muslims.
Despite Modi’s repeated campaign promises to create jobs, these commitments have not been fulfilled, leading to growing discontent among the Indian electorate.
