Memorandum of Understanding was signed regarding collaboration in Highway Research and Engineering Technology

Islamabad: A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed regarding collaboration in Highway Research and Engineering Technology between Highway Research Training (HRTC) -NHA, National University of Science and Technology (NUST) Islamabad, University of Engineering and Technology Taxila, and University of Engineering and Technology Lahore. NHA’s Member (Planning) Sabir Hassan, Vice Chancellor UET Taxila Dr. M.Abbas Ch and Director NUST (ISD), signed the MoU.

On this occasion, Chairman National Highway Authority Syed Muhammad Ali Gardezi reiterated commitment to realise highways, motorways and Expressway projects in a coordinated manner, as 98% country’s traffic is associated to road network.

He termed availability of a reliable and durable highway network, a dire need of time to meet the domestic and regional transit trade requirements. To achieve this objective, NHA needs cooperation of other departments relating to highway engineering. It is a source of satisfaction, he stated, that NHA is moving ahead successfully to turn HRTC into a centre of Excellence.

Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is already supporting NHA in the sphere of highway engineering. NHA desires to further expand the scope of collaboration with all the Universities of Pakistan. Objective of such endeavours is to build, operate and maintain a safe and sound road network in the country, he added.
