Minister Criticizes PTI for Mixing Religion with Politics

Lahore: Federal Minister for Information Attaullah Tarar has called on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to cease using religion as a tool in political matters. The minister made these remarks during a news conference held in Lahore, where he was accompanied by religious scholars who shared similar concerns.

According to a statement by Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Minister Tarar specifically criticized PTI’s reliance on religious sentiments, highlighting it as a tactic employed after the party failed to present a legal defense in the ongoing case concerning 190 million pounds. The sum was recovered by the UK’s National Crime Agency, and the minister questioned whether these funds were properly handed over to Pakistan or returned to their original owner.

In his address, Tarar also raised issues regarding the Al-Qadir Trust case, accusing PTI of exploiting religious imagery for personal gain. He expressed that constructing religious institutions with ill-gotten wealth is unacceptable, a sentiment that was echoed by the religious scholars present at the conference.

The scholars reiterated the importance of keeping religion out of political maneuvering, calling on all political leaders to avoid using religious sentiments as a shield for corruption. The minister’s comments and the scholars’ support underscore ongoing concerns about the interplay between religion and politics in Pakistan.
