Minister Naqvi Orders Investigation into Misclassification of Protected Consumers

Islamabad: Federal Minister for Interior, Mohsin Naqvi, has directed a swift investigation into the erroneous inclusion of protected consumers in the non-protected category, demanding immediate action to rectify the issue and ensure transparency in consumer billing. This directive follows concerns over potential overbilling affecting protected consumer categories across various regions.

According to Press Information Department, during a meeting held today at the Ministry of Interior, Minister Naqvi instructed all directors of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to verify the data from all Distribution Companies (DISCOs) and compile a comprehensive report within three days. He emphasized the importance of providing relief to those affected and tasked the Additional DG FIA North with personally visiting Peshawar, Lahore, Gujranwala, and Faisalabad to oversee the data collection and review the situation.

The meeting, which connected FIA directors via video link, included briefings on the specific issue of overbilling protected consumers. It was attended by high-ranking officials including the Federal Secretary Interior, Additional DG FIA Headquarters, Additional Secretary Interior, and the Additional DG FIA North, among others. Minister Naqvi stressed that a thorough review of the gathered evidence would be crucial to identifying responsible parties and ensuring such errors are corrected promptly.
