National Assembly Speaker Raja Pervez Ashraf’s message on the eve of World Environment Day

Islamabad, June 05, 2023 (PPI-OT): World Environment Day serves as a reminder of our collective responsibility to protect and preserve the environment for future generations remarked Speaker Raja Pervez Ashraf in his message on the eve of World Environment Day, celebrated each year on June 5,2023.

He said “This year’s theme, “Solutions to Plastic Pollution,” calls for our attention and concerted efforts to address one of the most pressing environmental challenges of our time. Plastic pollution poses a grave threat to our ecosystems, wildlife, and human health. It is imperative that we tackle this issue head-on, and I am proud to say that Pakistan, through the tireless efforts of our government and the National Assembly, has taken significant strides in reducing plastic pollution and promoting sustainable practices, he added.

He underlined that Parliament of Pakistan has played a pivotal role in enacting legislation to restrict single-use plastics, encourage recycling initiatives, and promote alternative eco-friendly materials. By introducing and passing these laws, we have demonstrated our commitment to combating plastic pollution and fostering a greener and cleaner Pakistan. However, our work does not end with the passage of laws alone.

It is crucial that we actively engage with our constituents, civil society organizations, and the private sector to raise awareness about the detrimental effects of plastic pollution and promote sustainable alternatives. We must encourage responsible consumption and waste management practices, emphasizing the importance of reducing, reusing, and recycling plastic materials.

The Speaker further remarked ” On this World Environment Day, I call upon all Members of the National Assembly to reaffirm our dedication to environmental conservation and pledge our unwavering support to find innovative solutions to plastic pollution. He emphasized that together, we can create a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable future for our beloved nation and for the generations to come.
