NDMA Hosts National Simulation Exercises to Bolster Monsoon Preparedness

Islamabad, The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has conducted a comprehensive two-day National Monsoon Coordination Conference and Simulation Exercise, drawing key stakeholders to enhance readiness for the upcoming monsoon season. The exercise, held at the National Emergencies Operation Center at NDMA Headquarters, aimed to improve the response capabilities of provincial disaster management agencies.

According to Press Information Department, the simulation involved multi-hazard scenarios including flooding and road blockages, to test and refine the coordinated response strategies of various disaster management entities. Participants included representatives from the Ministry of Climate Change, defense attachés, diplomats, United Nations agencies, provincial and regional disaster management authorities, the Pakistan Meteorological Department, SUPARCO (the national space agency), the National Highway Authority, Armed Forces, and various emergency services.

The exercise was designed not only to test the preparedness of these agencies but also to foster a collaborative environment for effective disaster response. Participants engaged in scenario-based simulations at both local and national levels, demonstrating their ability to apply learned concepts in real-time, simulated disasters.

Feedback from participants highlighted the exercise as an essential and well-executed strategy session for sharing knowledge and enhancing the skills needed for disaster response. The simulation underscored NDMA’s role in promoting resilience and proactive readiness across multiple levels of government and agencies.

The event also served as an opportunity for networking and coordination among the diverse stakeholders involved in disaster management and relief activities, reinforcing the importance of unified efforts in facing natural calamities.
