Islamabad: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued an emergency alert for parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK), anticipating significant rainfall that could lead to urban and flash flooding, as well as landslides within the next 24 hours. This weather event is expected to affect several urban areas across the province, posing risks to both residents and infrastructure.
According to Press Information Department, the NDMA’s National Emergencies Operation Center has forecasted rainfall ranging from 50-100 mm which may cause flooding in local nullahs and river tributaries. Areas likely to be affected include Charsada, Chitral, Dir Lower, Dir Upper, Mansehra, Peshawar, Shangla, and Swat, all of which are known to be vulnerable to landslides and flash flooding.
The NDMA has directed the Provincial Disaster Management Authorities (PDMAs) and local administrations to closely monitor the situation and implement necessary safety measures to protect the population. The public has been advised to maintain household drainage systems to prevent waterlogging and to report any blockages or potential hazards to local authorities immediately. Additional precautions include exercising caution while traveling to landslide-prone areas and adhering to guidelines issued by local officials.
Residents are also encouraged to download NDMA’s ‘Pak NDMA Disaster Alert’ mobile app for timely updates on disaster alerts, guidelines, and precautionary measures.
