Islamabad: Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar has stated that Pakistan remains a strong proponent of regional peace and stability but will make no compromise on its sovereignty and the safety of its people. He briefed members of the diplomatic corps in Islamabad about Pakistan’s stance on the regional situation and its ongoing response to the unprovoked aggression of the Afghan Taliban regime.
According to Radio Pakistan, Ishaq Dar emphasized Pakistan’s extensive efforts for peace and stability in Afghanistan, which include humanitarian relief assistance, hosting refugees, and providing scholarships to Afghan students. Pakistan’s primary demand from Afghanistan has been to take action against the TTP and other terrorist groups operating from Afghan territory. Despite repeated assurances, the Afghan regime has not fulfilled its commitment, leading to an increase in terrorist attacks within Pakistan, including those targeting civilians and places of worship.
Ishaq Dar explained that in response to Afghanistan’s provocative actions last Thursday, Pakistan launched Operation Ghazab lil Haq. He clarified that all attacks by Pakistan’s security forces under this operation are precise, proportionate, and measured, based on intelligence, ensuring that no civilians are targeted.
He further stated that Pakistan is acting in self-defense, exercising maximum restraint in accordance with international law and the UN Charter. Pakistan expects the international community to condemn the terrorist threats emanating from Afghanistan, which are destabilizing the region.
Ishaq Dar expressed hope that the international community will urge the Taliban regime to uphold its commitment to prevent its soil from being used for terrorism against neighboring countries. On the regional situation, he mentioned that Pakistan is in contact with all brotherly countries in the region, with efforts focused on de-escalation and the resumption of dialogue and diplomacy.
