New York, During the International Day of Vesak celebrations, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Munir Akram, called for the promotion of a culture of peace and non-violence, which he described as beneficial for humanity, particularly future generations. The event, co-organized by the Permanent Missions of Sri Lanka and Thailand, served as a platform for discussing peace and mutual understanding globally.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Representative Akram emphasized the significant influence of Buddha’s life and teachings, particularly in the Asia-Pacific region, which is rich in Buddhist heritage. He noted that the Indus Valley civilization, part of present-day Pakistan, flourished with Buddhism for over 2000 years. Akram highlighted that Buddha’s teachings on compassion, wisdom, peace, and non-violence are timeless principles essential for human coexistence, and he used the occasion of Vesak Day to reaffirm a commitment to these values.
