Beijing: In a series of strategic discussions, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, Pakistan’s Minister for Finance and Revenue, and Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Laghari, Minister for Energy, met with their Chinese counterparts in Beijing to reinforce the enduring financial and strategic partnership between the two nations.
According to Press Information Department, the meetings included dialogues with Mr. Lan Fo’an, China’s Minister of Finance, and officials from the China Export and Credit Insurance Corp (SINOSURE). The Pakistani delegation, which included Ambassador Khalil Hashmi and senior embassy officials, emphasized the critical role of China-Pakistan cooperation within the framework of their comprehensive strategic relationship.
Minister Aurangzeb expressed gratitude for China’s steadfast economic support and shared insights into Pakistan’s current economic reforms, including taxation, state-owned enterprise adjustments, and energy sector enhancements. These reforms are bolstered by a recent agreement with the International Monetary Fund, which Aurangzeb highlighted as a pivotal element in Pakistan’s reform strategy.
Minister Laghari detailed the ongoing reforms in Pakistan’s energy sector, underscoring the government’s commitment to overcoming operational challenges. In response, Minister Lan affirmed China’s ongoing support for Pakistan’s economic initiatives and advised that Pakistan could benefit from the lessons learned during China’s three decades of structural reforms.
Further discussions at SINOSURE headquarters focused on the role of the corporation in supporting Pakistan’s development, particularly under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). Both Pakistani ministers expressed confidence in SINOSURE’s continued support for existing and future projects, especially those led by the private sector under CPEC’s second phase. The President of SINOSURE reiterated the corporation’s commitment to facilitating socio-economic projects in Pakistan, including business-to-business initiatives.
