Pakistan and China to Strengthen Information Sharing to Combat CPEC Fake News

Islamabad, In a move to bolster the integrity of information regarding the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), Information and Broadcasting Minister Attaullah Tarar announced plans for the establishment of a China-Pakistan Information Corridor. This initiative, discussed during his meeting with Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zaidong in Islamabad, aims to counteract fake news and enhance digital connectivity between the two nations.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the Information Corridor seeks to establish a robust mechanism for government-to-government and media-to-media exchanges to address misinformation about CPEC. Minister Tarar underscored the importance of this partnership in safeguarding the narrative surrounding the critical infrastructure project, which is pivotal to regional connectivity and development.

The talks highlighted the longstanding support between Pakistan and China across various platforms, with CPEC heralded as a cornerstone for a sustainable partnership that promises widespread benefits not only for both countries but also for neighboring nations and the broader region.

Furthering cultural and media cooperation, the minister revealed ongoing discussions for a film production agreement and a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Associated Press of Pakistan and Xinhua News Agency. Additionally, an MoU between APP and China Media Group (CMG) is anticipated for the third Belt and Road Forum, alongside plans for a joint travel documentary production between China Global Television Network and PTV.

Minister Tarar highlighted the deep cultural ties and historical connections between the two countries, citing Pakistan’s significant contributions to Asian culture through the ancient Gandhara civilization. He emphasized the need to educate the newer generations about the profound and enduring friendship between Pakistan and China, underscoring the initiatives aimed at fostering this bilateral relationship.
