Islamabad, In a significant move towards enhancing bilateral relations and addressing global climate challenges, Romina Khurshid Alam, Coordinator to the Prime Minister on Climate Change, met with the Ethiopian Ambassador to Pakistan, H.E. Jemal Beker Abdula, today in Islamabad. The meeting focused on advancing climate initiatives and formulating a joint strategy for the upcoming Conference of Parties (COP) session.
According to Press Information Department, the discussions between Alam and Ambassador Abdula covered a range of topics, including the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on bilateral climate cooperation and the transfer of technology. Both sides underscored the importance of close collaboration in maintaining the ecosystem and environment. Alam extended an invitation to the climate minister of Ethiopia to visit Pakistan for the signing of the MoU, emphasizing the significance of such international cooperation in combating climate change.
Ambassador Abdula praised Alam’s leadership in achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and noted the Prime Minister of Pakistan’s apt selection of Alam for climate diplomacy. The meeting also highlighted Ethiopia’s Green Legacy program and the potential for knowledge and technology transfer between the two countries. Both parties reiterated their commitment to mutual campaigns aimed at improving the climate and ecosystem, recognizing the need for collective action to safeguard the planet.
The meeting, characterized by traditional warmth, trust, and understanding, concluded with both sides exchanging mementos and expressing gratitude for the fruitful discussions. It marks a step forward in consistent engagement on climate initiatives between Pakistan and Ethiopia.
