Islamabad, The Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination (NHSR and C), the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PM and DC), and the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME) have agreed to enhance cooperation to support Pakistani medical students abroad. This collaboration aims to address the accreditation and recognition challenges faced by these students.
According to Press Information Department, a meeting held in Islamabad included discussions between Iftikhar Ali Shallwani, Secretary of NHSR and C, Dr. Rizwan Taj, President of PM and DC, and Ricardo Leon-Borquez, President of WFME. The deliberations focused on improving the quality of medical education and ensuring the recognition of qualifications of Pakistani students from foreign medical institutions.
The officials underscored the importance of collaboration between Pakistani medical authorities and international accreditation agencies to ensure the educational standards and welfare of Pakistani medical students overseas. Secretary Shallwani and President Taj highlighted the ongoing efforts to streamline the recognition process for students with foreign medical qualifications.
The meeting led to a consensus on establishing a forum of international accreditation agencies, aimed at facilitating regular interactions to address recognition challenges. This initiative represents a significant step toward securing the future of Pakistani medical students studying abroad and enhancing the global standing of Pakistan’s medical education sector.
