Pakistan Commemorates Dr. Ruth Pfau’s 7th Death Anniversary, Honors Her Legacy in Leprosy Eradication

Islamabad: Today marks the seventh death anniversary of Dr. Ruth Pfau, a German physician and Catholic nun celebrated for her lifelong commitment to combating leprosy in Pakistan.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Dr. Pfau, often hailed as Pakistan’s Mother Teresa, moved to Pakistan in 1961 and dedicated her career to the eradication of leprosy. Her efforts earned her the country’s highest civilian awards, including the Hilal-i-Pakistan, Hilal-i-Imtiaz, Nishan-i-Quaid-i-Azam, and Sitara-i-Quaid-i-Azam. Dr. Pfau passed away on this day in 2017 in Karachi, leaving behind a legacy of compassion and significant advancements in public health.
