Pakistan Enhances CPEC Engagement with Upcoming China Visit

Islamabad, In preparation for a pivotal visit to China, Federal Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal chaired a review meeting with top officials, focusing on advancing Phase 2 of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and addressing critical infrastructure projects.

According to Ministry of Planning Development and Special Initiatives, the meeting saw participation from the Secretary of the Railway, the Secretary of the National Highway Authority, the Additional Secretary of Power, and other senior officials. They discussed the projects that would be presented during the visit, emphasizing the importance of progressing CPEC initiatives and enhancing regional connectivity. A significant part of the agenda is the modernization of the Main Line-1 (ML-1) railway track, a project seen as crucial due to the track’s age and safety concerns highlighted by potential risks of accidents.

Minister Iqbal remarked on the necessity of moving “two steps ahead” with China to complete the ongoing CPEC projects successfully. He also drew parallels between China’s development strategy and the need for Pakistan to adopt a clear vision and roadmap to achieve similar advancements. The upcoming visit aims to solidify plans and ensure the timely execution of these critical infrastructural upgrades within Pakistan.
