Pakistan Eyes Transformation into Regional Tech Powerhouse with Chinese Partnership

Lahore: The Pakistan China Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCJCCI) underscored the burgeoning partnership between China and Pakistan in digital entrepreneurship, e-commerce, and technology-driven economic development. Zafar Iqbal, Acting President of the PCJCCI, highlighted these efforts during a think tank session at the PCJCCI Secretariat, signaling a shift towards building an innovation-led digital economy through collaboration.

Iqbal noted the influence of Chinese business models on Pakistani startups, particularly within the e-commerce sector. He emphasized the significant impact of Chinese companies on Pakistan’s digital landscape, from payment systems to logistics. These advancements serve as a blueprint for entrepreneurs in emerging markets. Strengthening cross-border collaboration is seen as vital for accelerating Pakistan’s economic growth.

Aamir Ali, an Executive Committee Member of the PCJCCI, remarked on the establishment of Chinese firms’ local offices and production facilities in Pakistan’s Special Economic Zones, particularly around Islamabad. He extended an invitation for more Chinese tech companies to operate in Pakistan, with the aim of expanding into the Middle East, Africa, and Europe, positioning Pakistan as a regional digital hub.

Salahuddin Hanif, Secretary General of the PCJCCI, pointed out the global digital revolution’s impact on economies, with IT playing a crucial role in development and innovation. He stressed the progress made by both nations in leveraging technology for economic transformation. The PCJCCI remains dedicated to fostering collaboration through joint ventures, knowledge exchange, and investment facilitation. As digital ties with China deepen, Pakistan is set to emerge as a significant player in the regional tech arena.
