Islamabad: Pakistan’s Finance Minister, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, has called on Japanese investors to consider expanding their investments in the country, particularly within the manufacturing and production sectors. The appeal was made during a meeting with Japan’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Akamatsu Shuichi, held in Islamabad.
According to a statement by Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the discussions centered around ongoing economic reforms, enhancing bilateral relations, and exploring avenues for deeper economic cooperation. Senator Aurangzeb highlighted the improvements in Pakistan’s macroeconomic stability, attributing them to significant reforms and structural adjustments in areas such as the fiscal framework, taxation, Special Economic Zones, energy, and privatization.
The minister emphasized the government’s commitment to its reform agenda, which prioritizes addressing population growth and climate change vulnerability. He underscored the significance of the 10-year Country Partnership Framework with the World Bank as a strategy to tackle these challenges and promote sustainable economic growth.
Senator Aurangzeb also reiterated Pakistan’s dedication to maintaining trust with its development partners, including Japan. Ambassador Shuichi acknowledged the progress made in Pakistan’s economic stability and reform initiatives, and he provided insights into the scope of Japanese investments in the country.
The ambassador noted that approximately 80 Japanese companies are currently operating in Pakistan, employing over 65,000 local workers, and playing a substantial role in the national economy.
