Pakistan, India Extend Kartarpur Corridor Agreement for Five More Years

Islamabad: Pakistan and India have officially renewed the Kartarpur Corridor agreement, extending the arrangement for an additional five years. This extension ensures continued visa-free access for Sikh pilgrims traveling to Gurudwara Darbar Sahib in Narowal, Pakistan.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the renewal was confirmed by a statement from the Foreign Office, emphasizing the significance of the agreement in promoting interfaith harmony and peaceful coexistence. Originally established on October 24, 2019, for a five-year term, the agreement is nearing the completion of its initial period this month.

The Kartarpur Corridor, since its inception, has been a beacon of hope and reconciliation, providing thousands of Sikh pilgrims from India access to one of their holiest sites without a visa. The site is particularly significant as it is where Baba Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikhism, spent his final years. The initiative, often referred to as a “Corridor of Hope” by international figures including the UN Secretary-General, has been lauded for fostering significant progress in interfaith dialogue and understanding.
