Xichang, In a landmark advancement for Pakistan’s digital and space technology, Planning Minister Prof. Ahsan Iqbal attended the launch of the PAKSAT-MM1 satellite, a significant collaborative effort between Pakistan and China, aimed at enhancing connectivity and digital infrastructure across Pakistan, particularly in remote areas.
According to Press Information Department, the launch event in Xichang, China, was a focal point for discussions on the future of space technology and deepening bilateral ties with China. Minister Iqbal, along with Pakistan’s Ambassador to China, Khalil Hashmi, and SUPARCO Chairman Muhammad Yousuf Khan, emphasized the critical role of the new satellite system, equipped with Pakistan’s first Space Based Augmentation System (SBAS).
This system positions Pakistan among the few countries globally with advanced satellite navigation capabilities. The PAKSAT-MM1 satellite promises to deliver significant benefits in terms of digital education, healthcare services, and e-commerce, especially to underserved regions, thereby accelerating Pakistan’s transition to a digital economy under the National Digitalization Plan.
