Islamabad, Pakistan today joined the global observance of International Peacekeepers Day, recognizing the dedication and sacrifices of its peacekeepers in United Nations missions worldwide.
According to Inter Services Public Relations, Pakistan stands among the top contributors to UN peacekeeping efforts, currently deploying around 3,000 personnel in missions across various conflict zones including the Democratic Republic of Congo, South Sudan, and Somalia. Since 1960, Pakistan has sent 235,000 troops to 48 UN missions in 29 countries, reflecting a longstanding commitment to global peace and stability. This commitment is further underscored by the 181 Pakistani peacekeepers who have lost their lives in the line of duty.
The nation continues to support significant UN initiatives such as the Uniform Gender Parity Strategy and the Secretary-General’s Action for Peace, aiming to enhance the effectiveness, safety, and security of peacekeeping operations. Today’s commemoration serves not only to honor the peacekeepers’ valor but also to reaffirm Pakistan’s ongoing dedication to international peace and security.
