Pakistan Seeks to Strengthen Ties with Turkmenistan through Transit Trade Agreement

Islamabad, President Asif Ali Zardari emphasized the need for an expedited finalization of the Transit Trade Agreement with Turkmenistan, aiming to enhance bilateral and regional economic relations.

According to Press Information Department, during a meeting with the Turkmen Ambassador to Pakistan, Mr. Atadjan Movlamov, President Zardari expressed optimism about the agreement’s potential to broaden trade, improve regional connectivity, and boost economic activities. The discussions also covered the progress of the TAPI Gas Pipeline, a project expected to significantly contribute to Pakistan’s energy supply and economic stability.

The President underlined the importance of advancing the historical, religious, and cultural ties between Pakistan and Turkmenistan, advocating for increased high-level exchanges to invigorate their bilateral relationship. Both parties acknowledged the necessity to elevate trade volumes for mutual benefit and reflected on past engagements that have solidified their partnership.

The Turkmen Ambassador conveyed greetings from Turkmen leaders and highlighted the regional significance of the Transit Trade Agreement, projecting it as a catalyst for substantial transit trade activities. President Zardari reciprocated with good wishes for Turkmenistan’s leadership, appreciating their congratulatory messages on his election.
