Islamabad, Pakistan has reiterated its steadfast commitment to the Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline project, asserting its sovereign right to advance with the initiative despite concerns raised during a recent US congressional hearing. Foreign Office Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch clarified Pakistan’s stance during a weekly news briefing, emphasizing the project’s significance for the nation’s energy security.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Baloch stated that Pakistan requires no discussion or waiver from any third party regarding the pipeline’s construction within its territory, highlighting the communication with US authorities about the project’s importance. Regarding the US congressional hearing’s focus on alleged election rigging, Baloch pointed out misunderstandings about Pakistan’s domestic affairs and electoral laws, expressing hope for meaningful discussions to resolve these issues.
The spokesperson also touched on Pakistan’s commitment to maintaining robust relations with the US, advocating for legislative deliberations that foster positive bilateral dynamics based on mutual respect. Addressing inquiries about Pakistan’s recent operations in Afghanistan, Baloch specified that these were aimed at terrorist hideouts, not the Afghan government or people. She reiterated Pakistan’s respect for Afghanistan’s sovereignty and urged cooperation in combating terrorism to preserve bilateral relations.
Regarding the security of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects, including Gwadar Port, Baloch reaffirmed Pakistan’s dedication to their protection. In response to Indian Home Minister Amit Shah’s claims on Azad Kashmir, Baloch denounced them as unfounded, underscoring Jammu and Kashmir’s status as an internationally recognized dispute to be resolved in accordance with UN Security Council resolutions.
Pakistan’s firm stances on these issues reflect its commitment to national interests and international cooperation, emphasizing dialogue and joint efforts in addressing regional challenges and advancing development projects.
