Pakistan to Consider Exporting 100,000 Metric Tons of Surplus Sugar

Islamabad: In a strategic move to manage surplus stocks, the Sugar Advisory Board (SAB) has recommended exporting 100,000 metric tons of surplus sugar. The proposal was discussed in a meeting chaired by Minister for Industries and Production Rana Tanveer Hussain, with key government and industry stakeholders present.

According to Press Information Department, the meeting was attended by Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan, various high-ranking federal officials, representatives from the Pakistan Sugar Mills Association, Provincial Cane Commissioners, and FBR officials. The recommendation to export surplus sugar was subsequently forwarded to the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Federal Cabinet for final approval.

Minister Hussain emphasized that the export decision takes into consideration the current availability of sugar stocks and stable prices within the country. He assured that the export would not lead to an increase in domestic sugar prices, as the Pakistan Sugar Association has agreed to maintain the ex-mill prices. The exports, if approved, will adhere to specific terms and conditions set by the cabinet to ensure a balanced approach that benefits both the economy and consumers.
