Pakistan Urges Action on Escalating Space Threats at UN General Assembly

Islamabad, Pakistan has called for international cooperation to tackle the growing threats in outer space, during a debate at the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Munir Akram, participated in the debate concerning the use of the veto on the Outer Space Resolution, where he highlighted the critical issues of weapon proliferation and the increasing militarization of outer space by major powers. Akram voiced concerns over the deployment of missile defense systems and their integration with space technologies, pointing to the potential destabilizing effects on global and regional security.

He advocated for enhanced multilateral cooperation, particularly within the Conference on Disarmament, to address these emerging challenges and stressed Pakistan’s dedication to fostering inclusive and transparent discussions on global disarmament issues within appropriate forums.
