Pakistan urges UN Peacebuilding Commission to address situations in Kashmir, Afghanistan

Islamabad, July 25, 2023 (PPI-OT): Pakistan has urged the United Nations’ Peace building Commission to expand its coverage to include Afghanistan and Jammu and Kashmir. Speaking at the UN General Assembly Ambassador Munir Akram said that the Peacebuilding is a growth industry, however, we must acknowledge that the PBC’s coverage is not universal.

He expressed regret that significant situations such as in Afghanistan and in Jammu and Kashmir are not among those addressed by the Peacebuilding Commission. The Ambassador said that the Commission must remain responsive to national priorities and enhance national ownership and regional cooperation, while spotlighting its advisory role.
