Islamabad, Romina Khurshid Alam, the Prime Minister’s coordinator on climate change and environmental coordination, met with the Country Director of Save the Children to discuss the participation of children affected by climate change in the upcoming 29th Conference of the Parties (COP) in Baku. The meeting focused on the importance of giving a platform to Pakistani children who are experiencing the impact of the climate crisis, allowing them to raise awareness and influence global climate policy.

According to Press Information Department, Alam emphasized that children who are bearing the brunt of climate change should have the opportunity to communicate their experiences to the world’s leadership. She highlighted Earth Day and stressed the active role children can play in advocating for environmental actions, such as reducing plastic bag use in accordance with Pakistan’s National Adaptation Plan (NAP).

The meeting concluded with an agreement to promote the climate agenda through children across Pakistan in line with the country’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs). Both sides acknowledged the need for children’s voices in shaping climate policy and planning to address the significant challenges posed by climate change.
