Pakistan’s Law Minister Defends Judiciary’s Independence Amid Political Tensions

Islamabad, Minister for Law and Justice, Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar, has emphasized the need to keep the judiciary’s independence free from political interference. His comments come in response to criticisms from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party regarding the Supreme Court’s recent actions, highlighting the ongoing tension between political entities and judicial operations in Pakistan.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Tarar addressed the media, responding to PTI’s Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, by stating that attempts by PTI and its leadership to politicize the judiciary’s suo motu actions under Article 184(3) of the Constitution are misguided. He maintained that such judicial notices are constitutional mandates, not political issues, and that the prerogative to form benches lies with the Chief Justice and senior judges, not politicians.
