Pakistan’s Prime Minister Advocates for Multilateralism at SCO Plus Summit in Astana

Astana: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif of Pakistan emphasized the critical role of multilateral dialogue in achieving sustainable peace and development at the SCO Plus Summit, held in Astana, Kazakhstan.

According to Press Information Department, during his address at the summit on July 4, 2024, Prime Minister Sharif advocated for adhering to international law, human rights, and humanitarian laws. He condemned any form of unilateral coercive measures, as well as racist and xenophobic ideologies, including Islamophobia, which he stated undermine the principles of multilateralism. The Prime Minister highlighted the necessity of avoiding major power rivalries, adhering to the UN Charter, and resolving disputes through peaceful means to preserve and promote global peace.

The SCO Plus Summit brought together leaders from the ten SCO member states — Belarus, China, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan — and guest countries including Azerbaijan, Mongolia, Qatar, Türkiye, and Turkmenistan, focusing on strengthening cooperation and dialogue among the nations.
