Gilgit baltistan: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has directed the authorities concerned to expedite work on a 100 Megawatt Solar Power Project in Gilgit Baltistan and ensure its completion at the earliest. Addressing a review meeting on the project, he assured that the Federal government would cover all expenses associated with the initiative to supply solar power to the region.
According to Radio Pakistan, the Prime Minister emphasized the need for impartial third-party validation to maintain transparency throughout all phases of the project. During the meeting, relevant authorities provided a briefing on the federal government’s solar project in the region.
The briefing highlighted plans to install an eighteen Megawatt solar power project specifically for government buildings in Gilgit-Baltistan. It was noted that this installation for government buildings in Gilgit and Diamer Divisions is scheduled for completion by December this year, while the solarization in the Baltistan Division is expected to be finished by October.
The meeting also covered the ongoing work on an eighty-two Megawatt solarization project aimed at households in Gilgit, Skardu, Chilas, and Khaplu. The session was attended by key figures including Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal, Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Khan Cheema, Minister for Power Sardar Owais Ahmed Khan Leghari, Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan Engineer Amir Muqam, along with other senior government officials.
